Australia has been our first trip in the Southern Hemisphere. Every time we’d think of a holiday Down Under, we’d tell ourselves it cannot be for less than a fortnight. Plus, it had to be in December, since it is summers there. This year, we finally managed a two weeks’ holiday at office, since we had not taken our normal summer break. Plus, the daughter’s school was shut for three weeks, giving us ample time…..

Planning for the trip started four months ago – there was, after all, so much to do and see. We wanted to bring in New Year with the fireworks at Sydney Harbour Bridge, drive through the country-sides, go beach-hopping, see kangaroos (but of course)….and hog, for, Australia is also one of the best food destination of the world, what with its world-class meats, fishes and desserts….we knew, we were in for a good time…

And boy! Did it turn out to be a good time! Over 14 days, we toured primarily the eastern and south-eastern parts of Australia, covering its 4 states – New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and Queensland. Beautiful country, marked by stunning beaches, outstanding food and very friendly people marked our Australia holiday. We came back sorely missing the food and the beautiful parks…

The big miss has been the Great Barrier Reef, but that is because, January is not the right time to see the reef. The best time is from June to October owing to clear water and conducive diving conditions. Soon, sometime in the near future…
