Staying at Drumnadrochit Hotel, Loch Ness, Scotland

Staying at Drumnadrochit Hotel, Loch Ness, Scotland

We are stopping by Loch Ness tonight. That is Lake Ness in the highlands of Scotland. It’s a small village of not more than 2000 people, called Drumnadrochit. Another of the dream-like villages, with mostly white painted two-floored thatched houses, the country side has been rendered green with rains. spot cherry blossoms in full blossom here and there. And yes, most of the houses have the signboard B&B on them, meaning Bed and Breakfast.

Our’s today, is a lot like a log house with a bunk bed, perfect if you are a family of four. After Ceol-na-Mara yesterday, i have to admit that I was a tab bit disappointed. This looked more like any other hotel room. It turned out that it was. The property is called Durmnadrochit Hotel right off the Loch Ness Exhibition Center, and has 29 rooms scattered over a tiny hillock. My daughter off course was thrilled with the bunk beds and declared that she would take the topmost one. Continuing with her excitement, she claimed that the room was like the ‘wood house’ of the three little piggies in the story by the same name. That kept her busy for the rest of the time that we were there.

As i said, Drum is just like any other hotel with all the basics in place — clean, warm and basic facilities. Does have a county-feel to it, but certainly not the homely atmosphere we got at Ceol-na-Mara in Loch Alsh yesterday. Perhaps those tiny cottages down the road would have been better; Andrew had dropped two couple at a cottage called Marlea. Marlea looked like a beautiful home to me. These B&Bs are allotted by the tour operator, and it looked to me both yesterday and today that none of our bus-mates had any say in the choice of the B&B. but I think if you express your preference for the homely cottages vs the hotel cottages, the tour operator may book accordingly. We didn’t. Well, you get some, you don’t get some. And perhaps after our stay at Ceol-na-Mara yesterday, the bar has been raised.

After note: The breakfast was pretty much regular. Not a bad place for food.
