Drive from Hallstat (Austria) to Cesky Krumlov (Czech Republic)

Drive from Hallstat (Austria) to Cesky Krumlov (Czech Republic)

To Austria’s north is the Czech Republic. Hallstat was our final destination in Austria. Here onwards started our Czech holiday, with the first stop in Cesky Krumlov. A little more than 200 kilometers, this would be a 3-hour journey. We decided to set off early from Hallstat, so that we could get the longer part of the day in Cesky Krumlov.

How to go to Cesky Krumlov from Hallstat?

Well, both are remote towns. Not that connectivity is a problem, but trains involve changeovers and we didn’t want to do that with our luggage. Decided against the bus service too, since it would mean taking a taxi from the Cesky Krumlov bus station to our homestay, Pension Nostalgie, inside the cobbled town. The van shuttle would be best suited, as it would drop us right at the doorstep of Nostalgie.

Drive from Hallstat to Cesky Krumlov

The drive from Hallstat to Cesky Krumlov, as is usual with the drives in Europe’s countrysides, is ethereal. And as is usual with us, wanderers, we wanted to run out of the van into the meadows.

A bright morning, we made the most of it by having our breakfast one last time at the Maislinger early. The van, arrived dot at 8am. Blowing kisses to both the beautiful Hallstat lake and the charming town one last time, we hopped into the van, eager to see the countryside of both the countries.

Our most interesting discovery was that the entire Ausria stretch from Hallstat to the Czech border had meadows and farmlands. But as soon as we went to the Czech side, the landscape gave way to thick woods. Driving past the forest cover for almost 45 minutes we came up to the point where the Vltava river found us! And we found people river rafting! Our daughter wanted to jump out of the van right then and reach Cesky Krumlov rafting! We stopped her with the promise that we’d go rafting once we reach and have lunch!

Take the road. Any day. Reveals so much more….
