When in Europe, we usually choose to stay in quaint bed and breakfast lodgings. The reasons are numerous – they offer a peek into the actual life of the residents, they allow you the freedom to choose the best restaurants for lunch/dinner, they are reasonably priced. We like the most because the B&Bs don’t feel like hotels – they are more personal and full of character. Pension Vitis in Vienna was one such cosy and quaint B&B.
Run by an elderly couple, Karl and his wife , Pension Vitis is located exactly about 7-8 minute bus ride away from the city center. The closest train station, Westbahnhof, was just a 5-minute walk away. And yet, once inside, it is very quiet and so relaxing.
The lady picked us up from the airport the morning we arrived in Vienna. Extremely friendly, she helped firm up our sight-seeing itinerary for Vienna while driving us to Pension Vitis. Once there, her husband, Karl, took over and showed us around their little apartment that two rooms for renting out and a small outdoor dining area, used mainly on mornings with good sun.
He showed us to our room – a large, spic and span place where natural light streamed flooded in. The bed was neatly done in bright yellow linens. A blue sofa, a wooden almirah and a cute 4-seater dining table completed the room. We took an immediate liking to the room. It also had a mini kitchenette with all the basic tea/coffee arrangements in place.
Karl brought in breakfast every morning — a wholesome spread of breads, bacon, fruits, milk , tea and coffee. What’s more, he’d accommodate our requests for very early breakfasts so that we could get going with our sight-seeing plans for the day. He also gave us a whole lot of recommendations about which bus or train to take, where to go first and so on…extremely helpful and accommodating..
Wifi, of course, is free and unlimited.
