Seafood & Old World @Highway Gomantak in Bandra, Mumbai

Restaurant Review: Highway Gomatak in Bandra, Mumbai

If you are in Bandra East on a Sunday morning, craving for sea-food/fishes, and need to decide where to have lunch, choosing Highway Gomantak will be really a no-brainer. That’s because, everybody goes there for a Sunday Lunch!

Imagine a 1980s restaurant with long white tables, not much in terms of décor, menu written in black-boards, waiters hurrying around with big thalis in their hands, old 1950-60 Hindi/Marathi film songs playing in an equally old music system – that’s Highway Gomantak for you.

What to eat at Highway Gomantak, Bandra? We must confess, we have our standard order items here – Bombil Fry, Prawn fry, sometimes Ravas fry too. And for the main course, one of their sea-food thalis making sure that they are served with Bhakris (Indian bread made with rice flour instead of wheat flour), instead of rice. The Thalis come with Kokam Kadi, Salad and Chutney. I personally love their Pomfret Gassi. Jayanta loves Prawn Suke or the Clamps (Tisrya Suke).

Final Word on Highway Gomantak in Bandra: Food is good but not really cheap, mind you. But the rates are certainly lower than a Mahesh Lunch Home or Gazalee. An extremely informal place, relatively good on hygiene, quick service, and large helpings are what you can expect here.
