How Is The Bagdogra Airport in West Bengal?

Are you planning a trip via the Bagdora airport in West Bengal? Let me help you with some basic information regarding the airport:

  1. Via the Bagdogra airport, you can go to Darjeeling, Kalimpong, the Dooars, Gangtok in India and Bhutan too.
  2. Although a small-sized airport, most airlines in India have flights connecting Bagdogra.
  3. They have a Pre-Paid Taxi counter that caters to passengers going to Siliguri as well as tourist headed to the above-mentioned hills.
  4. Sikkim Tourism runs a helicopter service from here which is INR 2500 upwards per person for one-way to Gangtok (Check photo for the exact rates)
  5. One very basic Snacks counter caters to both the Arrival and Departure passengers.
  6. Washrooms aren’t serviced frequently. And hence, you can imagine the state.
  7. The moment you drive out of the Bagdogra airport and head towards city, you find a tea-garden on your right hand side. And thus the romance begins. The road is very good, with flowering trees lining bot side of the road.

Hey Buddy, it’s not true that you won’t find any local taxi/auto-rickshaws outside the airport, they do found over there, but yes the services are not frequent or regular. Although if you don’t have much luggage, then you can simply walk out and go ahead to the National Highway and you will get plenty of options.

You might ask me how am I know this? It’s because I was from Dooars area only and traveled to Bagdogra airport for so many times during 2007-2010 time period. Though my father is retired now and settled at Bhagalpur Bihar, so I am not getting any chance to visit there nearby.

Also as you mentioned about toilets condition, might be it happened with you, but otherwise it was in good condition.

Thank you Alok…i did check on my return journey and found that local taxis/rickshaws are available on a ‘running’ basis outside the airport. Their charges are not regulated though and depend on the driver’s whim and fancy. Bathroom conditions were bad even during my return…but proabably because of peak tourist season.

Yeah that might be possible. But anyways thanks that you took time to verify my comments 🙂

It’s always a pleasure to read about your native places.
