Mumbaicharaja – The Famous Ganesh of Ganesh Galli in Parel, Mumbai

After our Lalbaugcharaja darshan on Monday, we decided to walk up to the other famous Ganesh in the same neighbourhood – Mumbaicharaja.

Touted as the oldest Ganesh mandal in Mumbai, Mumbaicharaja is famous for its changing themes every year. This year, they made a replica of the Somnath Mandir of Gujarat and also had a giant-sized idol of Lord Shiva next to the Mandir. The organisers have pledged the money collected from the Mumbaicharaja’s Ganeshotsav to be donated to the victims of Uttarakhand floods.

Visarjan Route of Mumbaicharaja at Ganesh Galli: The mandal is likely to take out its Immersion (Visarjan) procession from 9.30 a.m. today (it being Anant Chaturthi, the last day of the Ganapati festival). The procession has taken the following route in the past — Dr. S.S Rao Road, Ganesh Cinema, Chinchpokli Bridge, Arthur Road Corner, Saat Rasta, Sane Guruji Marg, Agreepada, Dr. Bhadkamkar Marg, Opera House, Willson Collage, Girgaon Chowpatty.
