Paradise Golden 5 Hotel & Beach Resort, Hurghada (Egypt) – A Tourist’s Trap

Travelled to Hurghada as part of a 10-day Egypt tour. Our travel agent in India had booked us at this “5 Star Deluxe Resort” called Paradise Golden 5 Hotel & Beach Resort, whose reviews weren’t all that good, Had asked him to change the hotel but was told that it was too late. Looks like we had a premonition of what was to come…

Grand entrance. Felt like fools that we did not want to stay there. Then reality struck!!! The rooms were a poor reflection of a grand past – leaking toilet flush, nobody attending your repeated complaints, dirty and damp carpets …things just got from bad to worse.

At about 5:30pm we started walking towards the beach only to notice that the place was full of Russians and East Europeans, kids racing around in carts – complete chaos. Then the lights went-off … for 2.5 hrs! It was pitch dark with no power backup. Went back to the room; it had no water – apparently it needed power! Called our travel agent back in India and gave him a piece of our mind – we wanted to check out immediately.

Power came back only at 8pm. We decided to call it a day by having an early dinner. Another shocker awaited us — the dining area was a madhouse, to say the least. This hotel, apparently, is ONLY inhabited by ‘all inclusive package’ Russians and we were the only other nationality there. People stacked up their plates as though they had nothing to eat in a long time, only to waste 50% by the end!! There was every type of food, but all so BAD and tasteless. Tables were dirty, and despite pleading, no one bothered to clean them up and put fresh napkins. It was the same experience the next morning at breakfast!!

We finally managed to cancel our booking for the 2nd night and walked off to a wonderful hotel with its private beach, a good 45-min away.

Please don’t even venture close to Paradise Golden 5 Hotel & Beach Resort unless you like a cheap (and loud) all-inclusive package deal.
